You might think that Maureen is just a typical teenage girl living her teenage fangirl college life, based on the "definition" stated above. Let's try to get to know her more, shall we? (Okay, I'll stop speaking typing in third person now)

There three things that get me really REALLY worked up in conversations. First, is my love for Music (OPM, local/foreign indie, etc.) and second, is my keenness for photography. I also have the tendency to get really kinda outspoken when it comes to stating my opinions every time people make or conclude false impressions about the youth today.

I've been a fan of music ever since I was young. If you're gonna ask me who my idol is, it would definitely be my dad. I started playing the piano when I was 7-ish. By that time, I was an avid fan of The Black Eyed Peas, Pussycat Dolls, the Filipino band Kamikazee, and others (too many to mention, LOL). Yes, you read it right, I was that 7 year old with an eclectic taste in music who prefers listening to foreign/local artists rather than Barney songs. I guess this is because of the influence of my family, most especially my dad. I grew up listening to Jazz & Blues, classical pieces (Mozart!), oldies music, foreign artists, and OPM. As the years passed by, my taste in music has not changed that much. I just learned to appreciate Music even more. My enthusiasm for Music is just so over the top that I even ventured into learning other musical instruments which are the guitar and the ukulele.

I discovered new artists and other genres through music channels, music oriented shows, and of course, social media. One of those artists is Ed Sheeran. If you are not familiar with him, well maybe you've been living in another planet. It is impossible not to know him by this time. His song Thinking Out Loud can be heard almost everywhere! In jeepneys, malls, markets, and I bet you even downloaded it on your Spotify account or your cellphone. If there's such thing as "Directioners" fandom for the boy band One Direction, there is what we call "Sheerios" for the Ed Sheeran fandom which I am obviously part of.

With some of my Sheerio friends I met online
As I have mentioned above, I am also a fan of OPM. Some of my friends even say that I am such an OPM advocate (haha!). People nowadays say that OPM is dead because of the influences of other countries such as EDM, K-Pop, J-Pop, (don't get me wrong, I'm not a hater of these types of music)revival of songs, AND mainstream OPM (oh you know, those type of songs that are just so cringe worthy). Here's what I have to say about that. OPM IS NOT DEAD. It has always been there and it is not going anywhere. I don't believe that it is even close to being dead. It is so alive and kicking! There are a lot of talented Filipino artists away from the mainstream media that are not given their "break" in the Music industry yet (I am hoping!). Some of which are Jensen and The Flips, SUD, Autotelic, and so much more.
Music, just like us human beings, is evolving and I am just so excited and giddy for the gigs and concerts that are yet to be announced, for the songs that I am just about to hear, and for the artists that are yet to be discovered.

As a kid, I was not really into playing toys such as dolls or stuff toys (that, according to my mom). What I was holding most of the time back then was our film camera. I have not known this information about my childhood 'til now. I never knew I am into photography ever since I was a child. Maybe that explains why I am so fascinated by photographs and cameras, be it vintage or modern type.

I noticed that most teenagers, like me, nowadays show their interest in photography. Just by visiting their Instagram accounts, I can see that they also exert effort in making their feed aesthetically pleasing to the eyes.

But sometimes teenagers receive negative comments about it. Some say that they are pa-cool, or braggy. In one instance, I was bashed because of taking food shots. Mind you, I am not doing this just to brag whatever I am capturing. It's just that I get elated every time I capture something the way I want it to be registered in my camera. (more of my rants opinions about the youth being judged because of their actions on the last few paragraphs!)

I have to admit, I feel flattered whenever someone compliments me every time I take a great shot. It feels good to know that someone appreciates the craft that I pour my heart into. I also feel honoured whenever someone asks me to be their photographer. Be it for an event or even if it's just for their display photo on Facebook or Twitter.

When the local government of Pasig City offered Photography classes for free, I immediately grabbed the opportunity and enrolled. I am so glad that I learned a lot especially in using the features of a DSLR.

My inspiration in photography are Hannah Reyes, Francisco Guerrero, BJ Pascual, Kris Rocha, and many more. Someday I want to be like them. Maybe after becoming an RMT, I might pursue my ultimate dream job, which is to become a Music/Concert Photographer. (that would be orssuuuumm. Music + photog, what more can I ask for?)

If you really have a passion for something, do everything you can to improve yourself. Because if you already have that drive, who knows? You might succeed in that field someday. (this is me, talking to myself)

Wild, careless, insensitive, stubborn. Those are just some adjectives being bombarded to the youth today. If I were to describe our generation, I would say that we are spontaneous, optimistic, and genuinely happy in what we do, how we act, and how we carry ourselves. I mentioned earlier that teens like me are sometimes judged because of taking photos of their food. But that's just the tip of the ice berg.

#OOTD. That is just one of the several internet slangs that teens use. But sometimes they get judged by people because of their outfits. Some say that their shorts are too short even if it is actually not. Some say that they should dress "properly" because they look like they are asking for it. They even get catcalled sometimes which is just the worst feeling ever. What are they trying to imply? That girls should dress like this because boys are naturally like that? What kind of mentality is that? We live in a tropical country, wearing shorts should only be normal among us.

Most schools today have super strict policies when it comes to their student's hair. Wherein their hair should only be until this length, it should only be this kind of style, or it should not be dyed. I know what they are trying to prove but I don't agree with it. What is up with older people shaming teens with colored hair? Why deprive a student of education because of his/her hair? For teens, coloring or styling their hair is a way of expressing themselves. Styling it makes them happy and feel beautiful. They like the way they look and they feel confident with it. It shows a part of who they are. Why deprive them of that? It's just hair.
What if I dye my hair pink? Haha kidding

As of what I have learned in our Social Science class, culture evolves. And there's such thing as what we call the adaptive mechanism, where people are expected to conform or simply adapt to changes in the culture of the society. Point is, we are not in that old circa anymore where people are expected to act like this or that. A lot has already changed and is still changing. After all, change is the only constant thing is this world. Even if we are in this new era, we can still be that modern Maria Clara. (speaking for the teenage girls! :])

Shaming is just a part of Filipino culture whether we admit it or not. I cannot wait for our generation to be in charge. I hope we will be that generation who will be able to surpass all the gender, religion, and race barriers. I have great hope for us.
Generation Z, it is important to listen to the people around us especially because we are still young. They are the ones who will guide us first before we step into the real world. But once we become that grown man/woman, we are the only ones who will know what's best for us. We could do whatever we want as long as it doesn't jeopardize the goals we have set in for the future. Mabuhay ang kabataan!
